APRIL 25-29, 1983

Tuesday, April 26, 1983 Today's episode picks up where Monday's left off. Rebecca/Mona is in her room at the Springfield Towers, plotting her revenge on dear Sam (a/k/a Mark Evans), when Quint knocks on her door. Quickly hiding anything that might give Quint some inkling as to her plans, she opens the door. Quint asks her if she is alright and tells her that he and Nola were worried about her. She tells him that there is no need for them to be concerned because everything is going to work out exactly as she planned. She goes on to tell him that she is quitting her job at Spaulding because she'll have other things to occupy her time in a little while. When Quint suggests that she "talk to someone" before making such a major decision, she shrieks that she has no intention of seeing a psychiatrist. She immediately calms down again and says that everything will be perfect in a little over 24 hours, and that no one will be able to prevent their marriage now. When Quint again tells her that he's not going to marry her, he's going to marry Nola, Rebecca insists that he loves her. Quinton tells her that she really needs some help. She responds that she doesn't need anything, that everything will be just fine. Again assuring Quint that everything is going to work out, Rebecca walks out of her hotel suite, leaving a puzzled Quint to stare after her.

Wednesday, April 27, 1983

Quint is sitting on the couch in his study reading when Vanessa walks in, saying "Hello little brother". When Quint expresses surprise at seeing her, she tells him that she thinks family should be close. Vanessa asks him what he was reading and he tells her that he's reading about computers because he's planning on using one to classify his artifacts. Vanessa responds that she hopes he's more "simpatico" with his computer than he is with Rebecca. She asks him what's going on with him and Rebecca and he says there's nothing going on. He adds that he and Rebecca may have had problems in the past, but he thinks they can deal with them and get on with their own lives. Vanessa responds that she doesn't think Rebecca sees things from the same perspective. Quint admits that she can be irrational at times, prompting Vanessa to ask why he won't confide in her, since she's his sister and just wants to help. Quint asks what Rebecca said to her and Vanessa answers that Rebecca thinks she's getting married. Vanessa adds that she'd bet her gold card that Rebecca thinks she's marrying Quinton, and he replies that Rebecca has more problems than even he thought if she believes that. They have words about just how much Vanessa actually wants to help Quint and Nola in this situation, Quint tells Vanessa to stay away from Rebecca, and Vanessa leaves, asking Quint to give her love to "little Nola".

Thursday, April 28, 1983

The episode opens with Nola walking down the stairs at Thornway Road, carrying Stacey. Nola is dressed very casually, wearing little or no makeup and with her hair pulled up on her head and held in place by a scarf folded like a headband. Quint is waiting for her in the entry hall and they discuss Quint's failure to get in touch with Rebecca. His talk with Rebecca the day before has convinced him that Rebecca needs help immediately. Nola suggests that he check at Spaulding Enterprises after he drops her and Stacey off at the boarding house. (Yes, this is the morning of the day we've all waited for - the day Quint plans to propose to Nola.) Quint notices the bag Nola has sitting in the entry and asks if she's planning to move back to the boarding house. Nola answers "No, why?" and Quint responds that she had told him everything she needed for that night was at her mother's. Nola tells him that's right and he asks "What's all this?" Nola says it's just a few things that she needs. Quint walks up to Nola and says "You know, you're very beautiful Nola." Incredulously, she answers "Like this?" and Quint responds "Oh yeah, it doesn't matter what you're wearing, you're a very beautiful woman." They kiss, and Nola asks him to stop by the boarding house early that evening to have time to talk to each other. Quint says "Absolutely". As they are about to walk out the door, Nola says that she thinks "tonight is gonna be perfect". Quint answers "oh yeah", kisses her again, and in unison they say "just perfect". At the boarding house, Bea and Maureen are discussing whether or not Nola knows Quint plans to propose that evening. Maureen is sure that she does, that's why she's coming to the boarding house first thing in the morning to get ready for a date that night. Maureen tells Bea that she's sure Nola wants the evening to be like the movies she always watched, where the guy comes to the house with a bouquet of roses, but the girl isn't ready yet and so the guy has to make conversation with the family until the girl comes downstairs and dazzles him. Just then, Quint, Nola and Stacey walk into the kitchen. Bea tells Nola that she looks radiant and Maureen grins at Quint, who is trying to keep a straight face himself. Nola and Maureen leave the kitchen, and Bea asks Quint if he and Nola could stop by later that evening so that the whole family can celebrate the engagement with them, since they are all so happy about it. Quint says he thinks it's a wonderful idea and they'd love to celebrate with them. Bea gives him an enthusiastic hug and he tells her that it's not hard for him to figure out why Nola's such a wonderful girl. Quint goes to Spaulding to talk to Alan about Rebecca and learns that she had told Alan that she was leaving Spaulding in order to get married. While Maureen is working on Nola's hair, she, Nola and Maureen discuss Quinton. Nola tells them that he made friends with everyone on the boat trip home from Tanquir and that he said goodbye to everyone by their first name when the cruise was over. (Just how he managed to do this when they spent most of their time on the cruise in their suite, ordering room service - see Quola History for April 18, 1983 - shall forever remain a mystery.) She goes on to say that everyone thinks Quint is shy, but he's really not shy at all, he's very friendly. Nola adds that Quint is not snobbish, despite his background - he's very warm, and very loving, and very friendly. A little later, Bea asks what dress Nola is going to wear and then describes the dress she wore the night Tom Reardon proposed to her. (So much for trying to keep Quint's plans for that evening secret.) All during this day when the Reardon women are bonding and happily planning for a very special evening, Rebecca is putting her own plan into motion. She started the day (Amanda's birthday) by showing up in Amanda's bedroom and pointing a gun at her. She spent the day holding Amanda hostage and keeping Amanda from talking to anyone except Mark, alternately showing sympathy for Amanda and terrorizing her. Amanda asks Mark to come back that evening at 7:00 p.m., as Rebecca told her to do. Rebecca finally reveals that she is actually Mona Enright, and makes a lot of obscure comments about her plans for the day. Mona calls to arrange for a message to be delivered to Quinton, and then scrawls the date "4/29/80" on the mirror in the entry with lipstick. Rebecca and Amanda leave the house shortly before 7:00 p.m., when Mark is due to arrive. When Mark arrives, he finds the house empty, but sees the date "4-29-80" which Rebecca had scrawled on a mirror with lipstick. He realizes that it's a message from Mona, even though he doesn't know how it can be, since he believes Mona is dead.

APRIL 18 - 22, 1983

Thursday, April 18, 1983

Today is the day that Quint and Nola arrive home from Tanquir. The first thing we see is Quint and Nola opening the front door at Thornway Road, to be greeted by Bea, Maureen and Mrs. Renfield. Nola asks where Stacey is and Mrs. Renfield replies that she's sleeping late . Quint then goes upstairs to get her, and Mrs. Renfield and Maureen go into the study where Mrs. Renfield has tea waiting, giving Bea and Nola a few minutes alone. Nola tells Bea that the cruise was one of the most wonderful weeks of her life. When Bea tries to get Nola to tell her why it was so wonderful, all Nola will say is that it just was, until Bea finally asks "Nola, did he ask you to marry him?" When Nola tries to shush her, Bea says that she hasn't been able to think about anything else. Nola says that it was so romantic, just like "Now, Voyager". Bea says that she can't think of anything more romantic than a proposal at sea. Just then Quinton comes down the stairs carrying Stacey and Nola does not respond to Bea's comment. Nola takes Stacey from Quint and Bea and Quinton follow her into the library. Nola and Quinton continue telling Maureen, Bea and Mrs. Renfield about how fabulous the cruise was and how beautiful their room was. When Bea asks about all the "shops and restaurants and nightclubs onboard", Nola replies "I guess so, we had room service most of the time" and Bea says "I see", in THAT tone of voice. Nola then tells her that they had separate rooms and immediately changes the subject by telling Maureen that she and Ed need to take a cruise. Nola goes off to talk to Maureen, while Bea tells Quint that Henry wanted to be there when they got home, but wasn't sure when they would be arriving and was needed at Spaulding. In the next scene, Quint and Nola are standing face-to-face, Nola fiddling with the lapels of Quint's jacket and his hands on her waist, talking softly to each other about Quint going to Spaulding to visit Henry and totally ignoring Bea and Maureen, who are sitting on the couch and are clearly amused by Nola and Quint's total absorption in each other. Bea asks Maureen about her plans and Maureen says that she guesses she had better go, then gets up and tries to get Quint's attention. In a totally charming departure from anything we have seen before, Quint and Nola are talking and giggling at each other, completely oblivious to anyone and anything around them. Maureen has to raise her voice to finally get his attention and suggests that they walk out to their cars together. Quint kisses Nola goodbye and he and Maureen leave. Bea immediately returns to her favorite topic - "is it going to be a spring, summer, fall or winter wedding" - and can't believe it when Nola tells her that it depends on whether he asks her to marry him. Bea suggests that Nola at least give him a hint and Nola says that she can't ask him to marry her, unless.... She gives her mother a sly smile and doesn't say any more. Tony shows up at Thornway Road and lets slip that Floyd had Stacey staying with him for a few days while Nola was in Tanquir. Nola is upset at first, but then realizes that she has to work out a regular visitation schedule for Floyd. Quint pokes his head in Henry's door and gives his father a surprise. After they hug, Quint tells Henry how much he and Nola enjoyed the cruise and thanks Henry for the suggestion that they come home alone. Henry asks what Quint's plans are and Quint responds that he has some personal business to take care of. Henry then says "Hmm, I'm glad to hear that. Going to be a June wedding?" When Quint replies that he hasn't asked Nola to marry him yet, Henry indignantly asks why not and says that he hopes nothing is going to come between Quint and Nola. Quint assures him that nothing will and that he and Nola will be married very soon. Quinton runs into Rebecca, who insists that she has to talk to Quinton and he assures her that they'll talk that evening. Vanessa walks out of Alan's office, to have Quinton tell her that they need to talk. She agrees to come to Thornway Road later that day. Vanessa then comments to Rebecca, in her inimitably snotty way, that "Nola will never lose the taint of 7th Street" and says that she can't understand why Quinton would fall for someone with "such a shopgirl air". When Vanessa arrives at Thornway Road, she immediately assumes that Quint plans to tell Henry that she knew he was Henry's son for several months before Henry found out. Quint assures her that he and Nola never plan to tell Henry and adds that he thinks they should all try to get along for Henry's sake. He tells her that Nola is willing to try again and Vanessa makes a comment about Nola's "lovely generous spirit" and says she's willing to try as well. As she leaves, however, she says to herself that her first step is going to be to "get that Nola out of this house".

Wednesday, April 20, 1983

Rebecca comes to Thornway Road to see Quint, but Mrs. Renfield tells her that Quinton is not home. Rebecca insists that Quinton meet her at the cliff at midnight and tells Mrs. Renfield that she will answer for it if Quint doesn't show up. Meanwhile, Quint has gone to see Floyd and Leslie Ann to try to clear up the situation about Stacey. Floyd has a giant-redwood-sized chip on his shoulder, as usual. Quint starts by telling Floyd that he wants to apologize to him for inadvertantly causing Floyd to worry about Stacey's safety when he thought Silas Crocker might be in Springfield. Quint says that he was worried too, and expresses a wish that now they can get their lives back to normal. Mr. Obnoxious asks Quint what "normal" means in his house and Quint replies that it means he wants to make a home for Nola and Stacey. Quint tries to reassure Floyd that he wants him to spend time with Stacey, that he'll make sure Stacey always knows that Floyd is her father, that Floyd will be a part of every major decision made on her behalf - but Floyd maintains a hostile attitude. Quint even tells him that he grew up without a father and resented his absence, and that he never wants that to happen between Floyd and Stacey. Leslie Ann tries to smoothe thiings over, but Floyd tells Quint that he has absolutely nothing to say about Stacey, and then asks Quint if he's going to marry Nola. For the first time, there is a bit of an edge to Quint's voice when he tells Floyd he loves Nola and intends to marry her as soon as possible. The phone rings - Mrs. Renfield has called to give Quint Rebecca's message. Next we see Rebecca on the cliff, talking to herself about how everything will work out for her and Quint once she settles with Mark Evans. When Quint gets there, he tells her that he loves Nola and is going to marry Nola. (Looks like Nola is going to be the last person in Springfield to know that Quint plans to marry her.) Rebecca refuses to believe this and becomes hysterical after Quint leaves.

Thursday, April 21, 1983

Quint, Vanessa and Henry are having breakfast together. Henry asks them what they want to do with their futures, so he can help them. Vanessa immediately says that she and Quint are adults and can manage on their own. To her obvious chagrin, Quint says that he has definite ideas about what he wants to do and thinks he can realize them with Henry's help. Back at Thornway Road we see Nola carrying Stacey into the study, so Stacey can play with her toys while Nola works on her paper for her Creative Writing class. Rebecca shows up and announces that she's not leaving until she sees Quinton. Nola promises that she will tell Quint that Rebecca is waiting for his call and Rebecca leaves just as Bea arrives. Bea tells Nola that she wants them to come to the boarding house for a traditional Reardon poker party, but wonders if he even knows how to play poker. Nola replies that it'll be good for him to lose a little money and have some fun, but tells Bea she should be "gentle" with him since it's his first time at a Reardon poker party. They both laugh. Meantime, Henry is asking Quint about his plans. Quint tells him that he plans to remain in Springfield and wants to classify artifacts from previous digs, but that he is also considering becoming a teacher like Professor Renfield. When Henry asks if he'd like to take more of a part in running Spaulding Enterprises, Quint replies that he'll retain his Spaulding stock but has no desire to become involved in running the company. Bea and Nola are playing with Stacey with Floyd shows up at Thornway Road and asks to talk to Nola. Bea takes Stacey for a walk and Floyd tells Nola that he wants to speak to her about her and Quint. He tells her that Quint came to visit him the night before and apologized to him for putting Stacey in the middle of the situation with Silas Crocker, and that Quint assured him that Stacey would always know who her real father is. Nola tells Floyd that she wants them to work out a regular visitation schedule for him with Stacey. Floyd tells Nola that Quint really loves her and she says that she loves him too and wants her life to be with him, then Floyd leaves. Rebecca is still planning her revenge against Mark Evans and continues to believe that she can get Quint back, in spite of what he said to her on the cliff the night before. When Quint gets home from his breakfast with Henry and Vanessa, he tells her that the breakfast went well and asks how she spent her morning. Nola replies that Floyd came by and asks why Quint didn't tell her he had gone to see Floyd. Quint responds that it was a spur of the moment thing, because Floyd seemed to resent him so much. Nola tells him that she thinks Floyd's attitude is changing, and then tells him that Rebecca had come to the house looking for him. When Quint asks what happened with Rebecca, Nola responds that Rebecca said she had to talk to him again and that Nola didn't know everything. Quint tells Nola that he's sorry she had to deal with that and adds that he and Nola need to talk, so that Nola will have a clear understanding of everything that's happened, before he calls Rebecca. When Nola says that she promised Rebecca that she'd have Quint call her, he answers that Rebecca will just have to wait because he wants Nola to know the whole story first. When Nola asks him if what he wants to tell her is that he was involved with Rebecca once, Quint responds that there's a lot more to it than that, which is why he wants to have the time to explain it all to her without the risk of any interruptions. He suggests that they wait until after they have put Stacey to bed, which reminds Nola of the poker party. Quint says that he's really like to go and promises to do his best not to disgrace her when Nola wonders if he even plays poker. They decide to discuss the whole Rebecca situation after they come home from the poker party that evening.

Friday, April 22, 1983

The episode opens with Maureen, Tony and Bea setting up the table in the boarding house kitchen. Maureen asks Tony if he thinks Quinton knows anything about poker and Tony answers smugly that he doesn't think they have a class in that at Oxford. As Bea is warning Tony to go easy on him, Quint, Nola and Stacey walk in. When Tony asks Quint if he's ready for this, he responds that he's not sure but he's willing to try. They all sit down and Tony suggests that Quint deal the first hand. Nola objects that he's never played with them before, but Quint assures her that he'll "pick it up" as they go along. Continuing to act as if he's not quite sure about the terminology and rules of the game, Quint asks Nola to cut the deck for him. Nola is obviously worried that Quint is about to get suckered but good by the Reardon clan, but as Quint starts to deal, he announces in his best riverboat gambler voice "The name of the game, ladies and gentlemen, is five card draw, three card limit, jacks are better to open, trips to win, double progressive." He grins smugly at the stunned Reardons. The next scene opens on Tony checking his cards to the accompaniment of Kenny Rogers' "The Gambler". Bea, Maureen and Nola are out of the game and Tony calls Quint's hand. Nola, wearing a green visor and eating one of Stacey's cookies, watches anxiously. When Quint shows his four 3's, Tony gets a pleased look on his face and says "Well, those four little 3's [pause] beat the hell out of my three big kings" as the pleased look fades from his face. Everyone erupts with laughter over Quint's unexpected success. Maureen is up next to deal and Quint joins in with everyone else in teasing her about the version of seven card stud she wants to play. This is an entirely different Quint from the one we're used to - relaxed and fitting in perfectly with the down-to-earth Reardons. The fun comes to an abrupt end, however, when Rebecca walks through the door leading from the kitchen into Company. Quinton tells her that it's a private party. She tells Quinton that she wants to talk to him and he responds "not now". When she says "yes, now", Quint informs her that he'll see her in the morning. Rebecca forces his hand, however, by announcing that she intends to stay right there unless he agrees to meet her at Thornway Road in twenty minutes. She leaves when Quinton agrees. He apologizes to everyone for breaking up the party, and asks Nola to come back with him so she will be there when he talks to Rebecca - he doesn't want to have any more secrets from Nola. Rebecca is waiting in the study when Quint and Nola get back to Thornway Road, having kept a key to the house when she moved out. Rebecca flips when Nola walks into the study. Quinton tells her that he loves Nola and wants her to know everything. When Rebecca says that's not what she had in mind, Quinton responds that he doesn't care what she had in mind and tells her to just tell her story. She tells Nola that she and Quint were once engaged and that Rebecca Cartwright is not her true name, but she does not state who she really is. She goes on to say that she and Quinton were going to have a child, but it was never born because Quinton killed their child. Nola immediately responds that she doesn't believe it. Rebecca accuses Quinton of deserting her one week after they got engaged, because he went off on an archaeological dig. The next time they saw each other was on a cliff in Switzerland, when she told him she was pregnant. She accuses him of being cold to her when he got back from the dig and he reminds her that her pregnancy wasn't the only thing she had to tell him - she had also married someone else in his absence. Rebecca again accuses him of pushing her off the cliff, causing her to lose the child she was carrying. Quinton responds that he just doesn't remember. Nola goes to Rebecca and gently touches her shoulder in an attempt to comfort her, but Rebecca shrieks at Nola to get her hands off her and leaves in a rage. When Quint asks Nola what she thinks about him now, Nola answers that the one thing she knows for sure is that he did not push Rebecca off the cliff. When Quint says he thought Nola would never want to see him again once she heard Rebecca's story, Nola reminds him that he said the same thing when he told her about Professor Renfield. Nola insists that he is not the kind of man who would push someone off a cliff, and insists that it is time he stop paying for something he did not do. When Quint asks why Rebecca would say he pushed her if he actually didn't, Nola suggests that it's because she's in love with Quinton and is playing on his guilt feelings to hold on to him. Quint responds that if Rebecca thinks that, she's more ill than even he thought. Quint tells Nola that she is "simply amazing" and asks for some time alone to sort things out. As Nola leaves the study, she tells him that she loves him.

APRIL 4 - 8, 1983

Monday, April 4, 1983

The first thing we see is Quinton asleep in his hotel room. He's wearing pajamas (unfortunately, not white silk pajamas), but no ascot. He's having a nightmare about being trapped in the cave when Nola comes in the room and wakes him. She has brought him breakfast and insists that he stay in bed in order to fully recover from his ordeal in the cave. Quint, however, is determined to get up, telling her that he has had enough rest to last him a lifetime. He reminds her that the Tanquirian police will have probably figured out that he is Sean Ryan and may be swearing out a warrant for his arrest. When Nola insists that he's innocent, he reminds her that the proof of that is buried in the cave with Silas. Nola continues to have a positive attitude and insists that he eat his breakfast, urging him to "drink the juice". Nola is laughing and bossing Quinton around and he is clearly loving it. Nola has been sitting next to him on the bed throughout the conversation, something of a first for these two (if you don't count her sitting beside him on his cot once on the Temple of Gold island the year before). When Nola gets up to leave the room, Quinton grabs her arm, pulls her back down onto the bed and kisses her, and then each of them says how lucky they feel to have the other. Later, Helena (looking more banged-up than Quinton for a change) comes to Quint's room and they discuss the whole Silas situation. Quinton tells Helena that Silas set the charges that killed Professor Renfield ten years earlier, but she insists she was still to blame for oversleeping and not double-checking the charges. Quint then tells her that Silas admitted drugging her the night before the fatal explosion so that she would be too late to check the charges and prevent the explosion intended to kill her and Quinton. This makes Helena furious and she says that if Silas weren't already dead, she'd kill him herself for letting her think she was to blame for Professor Renfield's death. She and Quint talk about putting the past behind them and getting on with their lives, but Quint clearly has doubts about whether he will actually be able to do so. We next see Henry, Renfield, Nola, Quint and Helena all together. Helena tells Renfield that she can face her for the first time without guilt now that she knows she had nothing to do with Professor Renfield's death. (Her remorseful statement and demeanor seem rather odd, considering the arrogant, snooty attitude she always displayed toward Renfield up to this time.) Quinton, Nola and Henry are on the balcony together when a police officer arrives. Everyone fears the worst, only to hear the officer tell Quinton that he was never actually a suspect and was cleared of any possible suspicion when Professor Renfield's death was officially ruled an accident ten years earlier. Renfield is terribly upset with herself for having overreacted to the supposed danger, causing them to spend a decade on the run. Quint tells her that it worked out for the best, because otherwise he would never have met Nola. He also points out that it was through his relationship with Nola that he came to know his father. Renfield, Henry and Helena leave the room, but Quinton announces that he's going to stay there with Nola for awhile. (Helena has a rather sickly look on her face by this time.) Nola says how wonderful it is that they're finally free to love each and they kiss. Later, we see them on the hotel balcony and Quinton asks Nola about his mother's ring. She tells him that she started wearing it on a chain around her neck to keep Henry from seeing it, and he tells her that it doesn't belong there. She takes it off the chain and he puts it on her finger, saying that he hopes she'll wear it always. He then expresses the hope that someday they'll be able to be together and they kiss in the moonlight.

Wednesday, April 6, 1983

Quint, Renfield and Henry attended Gunther's memorial service (off-camera) following his death at Silas' hands in Tanquir. Nola did not attend but instead stayed at the hotel with Helena, who was still recovering from her ordeal in the cave in Tanquir as well as from being drugged by Kenneth and Mavis Llewellyn. Quint, Renfield and Henry also spoke with a Tanquirian official about setting up a foundation to continue Professor Renfield's work in Tanquir. Henry suggested to Quinton that he might want to make other arrangements for his and Nola's return to Springfield, rather than joining Henry, Renfield and Helena on a rather crowded flight on the Spaulding jet.

Thursday, April 7, 1983

Renfield, Henry and Helena make preparations to return to Springfield. Helena has a hell of a time getting her suitcase to close. Henry has bought a camera to take pictures of everyone, but has to get Quinton to show him how to operate it. We see Quinton dressed more casually than at anytime since he and Nola were in Hollywood in January, 1983. Some very cute picture-taking scenes of the whole group. Some nice Quint and Nola kissy-scenes. Quint and Nola talk on the hotel balcony about Tanquir and how beautiful it is. Nola comments that she never thought she would ever be able to think of it as beautiful. She tries to get Quint to tell her how they're getting home, but he refuses. A few well-chosen comments from Nola convince Quint that it's time they leave Tanquir, then he asks her if that was her plan. Of course, she says no.

"The Date That Will Live in Quola Infamy - the NSBR!"

We first see Quint and Nola on the deck of a cruise ship. Quinton opens the door to a stateroom and leads Nola inside. She doesn't have a clue that they're going home by boat. While intrigued by the opportunity to check out the stateroom, she's worried that they'll get caught somewhere they're not supposed to be. Quinton encourages her to look at the gorgeous floral arrangement in the room. When she looks at the card, she realizes that it's their stateroom, squeals and throws herself at Quinton, and they end up with her sitting on his lap on the couch, kissing and hugging him. A little later we see them talking about being on the boat. Quinton tells her that they can get any clothes or anything else they need from the ship's store. When Quint orders room service, Nola tells him to make sure they include "something chocolate". When we see them next, Nola is wearing a slinky, black-and-silver evening dress, with her hair done up on top of her head. Quinton is wearing a white, waist-length dinner jacket with black trousers. Nola is still amazed by the whole situation. Quinton tells her that he has a new type of brandy he wants her to try - Armagnac. They sit on the couch and kiss. Quinton says that this is the way life should be, and Nola makes a toast to "slow ocean liners and a long voyage home". They continue to kiss passionately. Next we see them dancing and kissing and declaring their love for each other. It's very obvious to everyone (including Nola) what Quint has planned, when she pulls away from him and starts talking to him about how much she's changed since they first met, how many mistakes she made in the past and how she doesn't want to make any more mistakes. [The less said about this, the better. The transcript of this portion of the NSBR can be found in the 1983A section of the Retro Quola portion of the Homepage.] When Nola says to him "I want to make love with you", the ever-perceptive (and unbelievably patient) Quinton responds "I want to make love with you. But you want to wait, don't you?" He tells her that he understands and he wants everything to be perfect for them. He then suggests a stroll on the deck and tells her that he'll "make everything all right". They walk out on the deck and kiss tenderly. [The entire NSBR scene can be found in the 1983A section of Retro Quola transcriptions.]

APRIL 1, 1983

Friday, April 1, 1983

Nola and Henry arrive at the cave where Quint and Silas are trapped, just in time to hear the doctor say that one of the men is "definitely dead". Nola screams "No! he can't be dead!" The rescue team carries Quinton out on a stretcher just as the cave collapses behind them, burying Silas. Nola and Henry follow as the rescuers carry Quint back to the camp. After the doctor treats Quinton, Nola tells Henry he should see Quinton first. When Henry enters the tent, Quinton is surprised to see him and is even more surprised to hear Henry call him "son". Henry tells him how Nola enlisted his help to save Quinton, knowing she was risking their relationship, and insists that Quint should not be angry with Nola. Quinton responds that he's not angry, then he and Henry have a short but touching father-son conversation. Quinton asks Henry to send Renfield in to see him next. Nola looks apprehensive when Henry tells them, tearfully, that Quinton "actually called me father". Quinton tells Renfield about his discovery inside the cave and that he hopes to come back to Tanquir in the future to complete Professor Renfield's work. He also tells her that he now knows that he was not responsible for Professor Renfield's death. After Renfield tells him how happy all this has made her, she then says that his most important visitor is still waiting to see him. Renfield and Henry tell Nola that she looks beautiful, and should trust their opinion, she says "I guess I'll have to", takes a deep breath and steps into the tent . . . to find Quinton smiling and eager to see her. Nola tearfully explains why she broke her promise to Quinton, only to have him tell her that it was "absolutely the right thing to do". [The entire reunion scene between Quinton and Nola can be found in the 1983A section of Retro Quola transcriptions.]
