INT. QUINT'S TENT (Scene 13C)
NOLA nervously walks around the tent wondering if her willpower will hold up. Nola wonders what is taking Quint so long. The rain has really started coming down.
NOLA (to herself): I really can't leave those things in the this rain.
She grabs her hat and runs out of the tent.
FADE TO
INT. QUINT'S TENT -- A FEW MINUTES LATER (SCENE 13D)
NOLA and QUINT both run into the tent soaking wet. Nola pulls of her hat which protected her hair (and make up / I think we had enough of that runny mascara look in the 80's).
NOLA: Oh, I'm freezing
Nola jumps around trying to get warm. Quint grabs a blanket and wraps it around her.
QUINT: I told you to wait in the tent for me. Now we're both soaked.
NOLA: But I saw all those things out there and the rain really started coming down.
QUINT: Thank you Nola, that was very very sweet of you.
Quint lightly kisses her.
NOLA: So now what are we going to do?
QUINT: Well first we need to get dry.
Quint starts to rustle through his drawers for something for Nola to put on. He pulls out a flannel shirt and a pair of boxer shorts.
QUINT: This will be a little big, but it should work for now.
Nola takes the clothes and Quint pulls out something for himself.
NOLA: So where I am supposed to put these on?
QUINT: Well this is it, unless ofcourse you want to go back out into the rain, but then you might be defeating your purpose
NOLA: So am I just supposed to do some strip tease or something.
QUINT: I would like that, but how about if I hold this blanket up and promise not to peek.
NOLA: I guess I have no choice, but no peeking
QUINT: (joking) So is there something new I haven't seen before?
NOLA: Quinton really. This is not part of my plan. This rain was not part of my plan.
Quinton holds up the blanket and like a good boy looks away. Nola looks at him suspiciously and starts to undress.
QUINT: Just hurry up, I am freezing too. So are you naked yet?
Nola takes off her top and turns away
NOLA: Quinton stop!!
Quint peeks in and wraps the blanket around her
NOLA: What are you doing.
QUINT: Don't you want to dry off before you put on the dry clothes.
NOLA: How did you know I was ready for the dry clothes?
QUINT: Just guessed
NOLA: Yeah right. You are so bad.
QUINT: No worse than the way you were last night.
Nola is standing there wrapped in the blanket.
NOLA: Excuse me, what is that supposed to mean?
QUINT: Nola, you know you don't just take off my ascot and then say "see you later". You were being a little tease.
NOLA: Well you deserved it.
QUINT: You are right about that. Look Nola I am really freezing. Do you mind if I get out of these wet clothes before I have to hold that blanket again.
NOLA: Well I guess that wouldn't hurt.
QUINT: Of course not.
Nola sits on the bed wrapped in the blanket. Quint starts to change off-screen. Nola nervously looks away, but every once in awhile sneaks a peek.
QUINT: I saw that.
NOLA: Saw what
QUINT: You are peeking too and look how much I trusted you not to.
NOLA: I was just . . . I was just looking out . . . looking out the window thing to see how hard the rain was still coming down.
QUINT: Well from the noise in here, I'd say it was coming down pretty hard and probably will for some time. There doesn't seem to be any wind to blow the storm out.
NOLA: Isn't that a pity
QUINT: But I know you peeked.
NOLA: (mocking him) So is there something new I haven't seen before??
QUINT: Touche
Quint walks over to Nola freshly dressed leaving his shirt half unbuttoned and sits down next to her on the bed
QUINT: It feels really good to be out of those wet clothes and it feels really good to be here with you. I picked up that bottle of cognac last night just in case you changed your mind and came running over here.
NOLA: Sorry to have disappointed you.
QUINT: Nola, the idea of you in that blanket right now is making me . . .
Quint touches her hair and then brushes his fingers against her cheek. Pachelbel starts to play.
QUINT: Nola, I just want to hold you and make love to you and make everything right.
Quint catches her gaze and they hold it for awhile.
NOLA: I don't know about that last part, but I would like some . . . .
Quint looks hopeful
NOLA: I would like some of that cognac. It would only be right.
QUINT: Yes of course.
He gets up and pours them both cognac into the snifters that he ofcourse has in the tent. He walks back to the bed and hands her the snifter. She calmly tries to keep the blanket wrapped around her while holding the glass of brandy.
QUINT: I would like to make a toast to new beginnings Nola and Quint take a sip of cognac. They gaze longingly into each others eyes. Quint takes Nola's snifter away from her and gets up and places them on the desk not letting her out of his sight. Quint returns to Nola's side. He touches her cheek and then gently kisses her.
QUINT: Nola, I love you so much
NOLA: I love you too He slowly looks at her sitting on the bed wrapped in the blanket.
QUINT: Okay?
Nola nods and turns to him. Quint slowly starts to unwrap the blanket and looks down at her.
QUINT: Nola, you are so beautiful.
Quint pulls her into a passionate kiss and the blanket falls off her. Nola puts her hands under his shirt and pulls it off. They continue to kiss and then Nola pushes him down onto the bed. (Director takes over showing lots of little close ups and such suggesting activities taking place)
FADE OUT

INT. QUINT'S TENT -- A LITTLE LATER (Scene 13E)
NOLA and QUINT continue to kiss passionately. Quint rolls Nola over on her side and continues to kiss her neck, ears, etc.
QUINT: Nola you are so incredible
NOLA: (breathlessly): I definitely did not plan for this to happen, but I'm so glad it did.
QUINT: I'm so glad to hear you say that
Quint nuzzles Nola
NOLA: I don't think there is anything wrong with two adults enjoying each other.
QUINT: Your new motto rears its amazing head again NOLA: I never thought we would be like this again.
QUINT: Me too
NOLA: Then I was afraid that after all this time, it just wouldn't be the same
Quint continues to nuzzle her
NOLA: I just feel so (searching for the right word and then gives up) . . . good
Nola laughs QUINT: Nola, I love you. I wish we could stay like this forever
NOLA: I know what you mean
QUINT: So are you ready for Round 2?
Nola giggles at the suggestion
NOLA: I guess that means that you are
Quint pulls her close, they hesitate for a moment, start to kiss
FADE OUT:
INT. QUINT'S TENT -- LATER THAT NIGHT (SCENE 14))
QUINT and NOLA lie in each others arms exhausted.
NOLA: Not bad for an old man
Quint is going to come back at her, but she stops him
NOLA: (teasing) Don't even go there!
QUINT: (playfully) So it's okay for you to say it?
NOLA: It was a compliment okay
QUINT: Well okay. Can I go for another gold star
NOLA: Quinton, I am starving
QUINT: (salaciously) Still?
NOLA: For food. Do you have any food here?
Nola gets out of bed and walks off screen
NOLA (O.C): You need to get some groceries. There is not much in here.
Quint lies in the bed watching Nola
NOLA (O.C): This peanut butter should work. Do you want anything?
QUINT: (suggestively) Yes . . . but no food, I think I'll just enjoy the view.
NOLA (O.C. teasing): You peeking again?
QUINT: Absolutely
NOLA: (C.U.) Sorry to ruin your fun, but it is a little chilly in here.
QUINT: (teasing) I can see that?
NOLA: Ha, ha, where are those clothes?
QUINT: (pleading) Don't do that
NOLA: Quinton, I'm cold
Quint pulls back blanket
QUINT: Well get back in . . . and I'll warm you up
NOLA: I bet you will
Nola smiles and quickly gets back into the bed with the jar of peanut butter and a spoon.
NOLA: I can't believe the rain is still coming down
QUINT: Well it did stop for awhile, but I figured you wouldn't notice
Nola continues to hungrily eat peanut butter
NOLA: No it didn't
QUINT: It did I swear.
Nola shrugs it off and hold up a spoonful of peanut butter
NOLA: Would you like some?
QUINT: Well, I guess I could use some nourishment
NOLA: I'd say so
She feeds him a spoonful of peanut butter and Quint gives her a big peanut butter kiss
NOLA: What time were you expecting Reno and J back?
QUINT: No time tonight. I called them earlier when the rain started and told them not to bother coming back
NOLA: Good thinking
QUINT: (pointing to PB) Could I have more of that?
NOLA: (teasing): You better watch that
QUINT: What is that supposed to mean?
NOLA: Quinton, don't worry about it. I like your . . . . . love handles. They're cute.
QUINT: I don't have . . . love handles . . . well a maybe a little
NOLA: I told you. I think they're cute
QUINT: Cute? Well not everyone can keep the same body they had when they were in their 20's.
NOLA: (teasing) Same body? Excuse me. I think I look better.
QUINT: Well now I know where our son gets his bravado.
NOLA: (holding out PB): Would you like any more of this?
QUINT: (indicating PB) None of that, but more of this.
Quint takes peanut butter from her and drops it by the bed. They begin to kiss
FADE OUT:
INT. QUINT's TENT -- THE NEXT MORNING (SCENE 15)
QUINT and NOLA are sleeping in each others arms. Quint starts to wake and looks at Nola sleeping next to him and smiles pulling her closer. Nola stirs and starts to wake.
QUINT: Good morning
Quint gently kisses her
NOLA; It is morning? Oh my God, J and Bridget must be going crazy wondering what happened to me.
QUINT: Don't worry. After you fell asleep I knew you were finished for the night and I called Bridget.
NOLA (embarrased): Oh Quinton, what did you tell her?
QUINT (teasing): Just that after a night of passion you were too spent to go home.
Nola reacts with shock
QUINT: Calm down. I told her that our cars got stuck in the mud and that you couldn't get it out until the next day.
NOLA: Did she ask where I was staying?
QUINT: She didn't ask. I guess I figured you would be safe with me
NOLA: Well from the looks of things this morning, it looks like I wasn't
QUINT: Come on, don't tell me you didn't love every minute.
He brushes his fingers against her shoulder
NOLA: So what if I did?
QUINT: Nola, last night was absolutely amazing. You are amazing
Quint kisses her
NOLA: What time is it?
QUINT: It's a little after 8
NOLA: I can't believe I slept so late
QUINT: I thought you'd be out until noon after last night
NOLA: Quinton, stop it, you're embarrasing me in the daylight
QUINT: Don't be embarrased, be proud
Nola smiles and kisses Quint
NOLA: Well I guess we better end this party
She sits up and looks around
NOLA: Where are my clothes?
QUINT: Well after you fell asleep and I called Bridget and it stopped raining, I hung them out to dry in a place where no passers-by could see.
NOLA: You thought of everything
QUINT: I tried my best
NOLA: Could you get them for me so I can get dressed
QUINT: Not just yet
He sits up and starts kissing her neck and pulling her down to the bed.
NOLA: Quinton, it's after 8
Quint keeps kissing her ignoring what she is saying.
NOLA (laughing): Am I going to have to find you your ascot . . . Oh why not? She gives into his kisses and she roles on top of him
J's voice is heard off screen
J (O.C): Dad where are you? Oh man, this place is a mess. I'm not working in this mud.
Nola looks panicked
NOLA: Quinton, I can't let J see us like this!
QUINT: It wouldn't be the first time. Remember that time at Machu Pichu. Talk about inopportune.
NOLA: Quint, please, this is different
QUINT: (teasing) That's right. He thinks we hate each other
NOLA; Do something
QUINT: He's not exactly a little boy anymore. I think he would understand
J (O.C.): Dad where are you? Don't tell me you are still asleep
J's voice is getting closer to the tent
NOLA: Quinton, so something quick. He is coming in here
Quinton jumps out of the bed and pulls on a pair of pants and throws on a shirt
J (O.C just outside tent): Did you just wake up? Mr Up at the Crack of Dawn?
QUINT: J don't come in
Nola hides her head under the sheets
J: Dad why are you acting so weird? (starts to realize what is going on) Oh dad, I can't believe this. I thought at your age you'd be slowing down
QUINT: J, please stop
J: You keep telling me how you want to fix things WITH MOM and how you LOVE MOM
(J talks very loudly so his dad's guest will hear these things)
QUINT: J!!
J: What so you don't want your slut in there to hear that you told me just yesterday that you are still in love with mom?
J walks into tent past Quint. Quint tries to stop him, but J is determined
QUINT: J you really need to get out of here
J: No, I want to see her. Got yourself a shy one, huh?
(J looks at lump in bed)
J: (sarcastically): Ma'am. I'm Anthony James Chamberlain, his son, but everyone calls me J
(Nola does not move under the sheets)
J: So aren't you going to introduce yourself?
Nola slowly moves the sheet down and looks at J seriously and extends her hand to J
NOLA: I'm Nola Chamberlain, your mother
J: (stunned): Mom!! Oh man, I'm having a Peru deja vu!!
NOLA: You mean Machu Pichu
J: Then too. I'm oughta here. I'm really sorry
J runs out of the tent
NOLA: (laughing a bit) I don't know if I've ever seen him that pale.
Quint leans down and kisses Nola
QUINT: I love you. I'll go get your clothes.
EXT. QUINT'S TENT -- LATER (SCENE 16)
QUINT and J are sitting at a table under a canopy drinking coffee
QUINT: Please don't make a big deal of this when your mother comes out.
J: Dad, when I saw mom's face, I thought I would . . . die. So does this mean you guys are back together?
QUINT: We are really trying to make this work. Last night was very important and I don't want to make her feel weird about it.
J: Make her feel weird? I'm the one who feels weird. Who wants to think about their parents doing (almost looking disgusted) . . . you know
NOLA comes out of the tent. She kisses J on the forehead
NOLA: Good morning
J: Mom, I'm really sorry about before
NOLA: Forgotten . . . agreed?
J nods
NOLA: I'm starved
J cringes at this remark
NOLA: Is there anything to eat?
QUINT: Reno is bringing back some breakfast. Would you like some coffee?
NOLA: Please
Quint pours coffee and gives it to her
QUINT: I don't think we will be able to get anything done today with all this mud.
J: Great, why don't the three of us do something fun today? How about hitting a movie? I think there is an Elm Street marathon at the Sixplex.
NOLA: I hate those movies J. But I heard there is a Judy Garland double feature at the Criterion. I think it is "Summer Stock" and um . . . "The Clock" . . . I think . . . she doesn't sing in that one.
J: No way am I seeing those hokey Judy Garland movies again . . . no way
QUINT: (excited) They are showing some documentaries on Byzantine Civilization at the University.
Both J and Nola look at Quint in disbelief and disgust
J: Dad, let's just put it this way. I would head up old Judy's fan club before I'd go see Byzantine documentaries.
NOLA: The three of us can never agree on movies and then throw Stacey into the mix. Forget it.
J: Oh her and those stupid science fiction movies
NOLA: Why don't we go see that new Liam Neeson film. Quinton and I both like him and there must be someone cute in it for you.
QUINT: Agreed
J: That should work. Oh, but guys please don't embarrass me at the theater. It will be bad enough to be out with the parental unit.
NOLA: Embarrass you? What do you mean?
QUINT: Yeah, what do you mean?
J: Well first there is the all important popcorn discussion. Then the milk duds versus Good n Plenty debate.
NOLA: Your father likes those awful Good n Plenties
J: . . . Oh and then the all important decision to sit in the back or the front of the theater
NOLA & QUINT (together): Definitely the back
J realizing the implication of this
J: No way guys. Today . . . we sit in the front and that is final.
Quint fishes in pocket for his credit card
QUINT: Here, why don't you go order us tickets
J: Sure, this will be fun. I just wish Stacey was here.
J runs to tent to make call
QUINT: Nola, this is so wonderful
NOLA: I know . . . Quinton, I think we should maybe start talking about . . .
QUINT: Whenever you are ready. Just let me know. I will always be here for you
NOLA: I just don't want to ruin this feeling
QUINT: Nola, we can work it out
He hugs her
NOLA: I love you and last night and this morning was so incredible.
QUINT: I'm just worried about one little thing
NOLA: What's that?
QUINT: Well that comment you made about my . . . (indicating to his body re: "love handles)
NOLA: I'm sorry. I was just kidding. I din't think you'd be so sensitive. I love you just the way you are.
Nola kisses him
QUINT: I just want everything to be perfect now
They move in for another kiss when J comes back
J: Tickets will be waiting for us Quint and Nola smile at each other.
