MT's Birthday Tape Celebration

In celebration of Michael Tylo's birthday on October 16, and because Libras are fabulous, says the content producer, the Quint & Nola Homepage is once again giving away free videos from their extensive Retro Library. Be one of the first five visitors to write to us, and tell us about some of your fondest memories of Quint & Nola. If you can come up with something other than the "Scarlett O'Hara" brawl, fire truck and hot air balloon, we would be so appreciative. We don't mean to be difficult, but those moments were far from their best.

Five visitors will win a free 2 hour VHS dub. Happy Birthday, Michael. Alles Gute zum Geburtstag! Hyvää syntymäpäivää!

SAMPLING OF LETTERS IN THE MT BIRTHDAY TAPE CELEBRATION CONTEST

In the early 80's I was 10-12 and never missed Guiding Light. By far my favorite segments revolved around Quint/Nola/Silas. GL hit on a great theme here as Indiana Jones was very big, so archeology was where it was at. For a Daytime to put such development into these characters was astonishing..still is. The Nola kidnapping was just spectacular. Lisa Brown and Michael Tylo were great, but the support from Gregory Beecroft, Benjamin Hendrickson, and Alan Coates made for a superb drama. The mood of that whole piece was incredible..I can still picture that boat!!!

Hi! This is Lori. I am a life-long fan of Guiding Light and I adore the Nola/Quint era more than anything else on the show. They were two of the best. I've watched the show for a long, long time now (I'm over 20 and under 50!) and I tell you this super couple was the best of their time, and of any time. I worked in the lingerie part of JC Penny way back then and I used to sneak away from pink and purple underwear to see this show every afternoon. Nearly cost me my job! I'd turn every television in a row of TV's to this show and I'd try to linger without being noticed for an hour. Wow, what it would've been like to have a VCR back then. I missed pieces of the show every now and then but I had the overall story and I loved it. Missed the Silas scene in the cave somewhere, but thanks to this site I can read the love letter sent by Quint to Nola. Wow. That is some really good stuff.

Thanks to the web site I can see what I missed between the undies department and the appliance department back then. Thanks!

Yes! Another tape contest! I loved my last tape, with the dubs of Quint and Nola, stretched out over two wonderful hours. It brought back many memories, much fondness, and I had the warm tune of Pachalbell humming softly in my ears for three full days.

I was a kid when I first started watching Guiding Light. I was twelve, and I spent a lot of time with my grandmother, who was an avid soap watcher. During that time in my life I was enduring a rather messy parental divorce... my father walked out and left my sister and I in the care of my mother and my grandmother. Those were long days for us. I remember falling into the world of Guiding Light and becoming very comfortable there. I remember the boarding house and the wonderful world of the Reardons; it wasn't too hard to imagine myself among that warm extended family. Nola, of course, was my favorite character. She could get into so much trouble... and it never seemed too easy for her to untangle herself. There was Kelly, there was Floyd... and oh my goodness, there was Quint McCord.

Here was this tall, handsome, and darkly mysterious character who lived in this deep, dark mansion on Thornway Road... he had the creepy housekeeper Mrs. Renfield; the pale, wispish, ghost-woman of an ex-lover, Helena; the mute woman who somehow survived a fall from a cliff, Rebecca; and of course, there was the fiery young woman named Nola who showed up at his door. Did I mention Quint's eyes? That deep dark blue. Or the way he would whisper, very quietly, and say, "Nola..." Wrap that up with a sinister, dangerously unbalanced nemesis in Silas Crocker, and you've got a storyline that drew me in, every single day, for the 12th, 13th, and 14th years of my life.

I remember the wonderful way these actors worked together, and I am so fond of Lisa Brown's "Nola" and Michael Tylo's "Quint." Their time together was magic, it was the best kind of fantasy. The dream sequences, their love story, these two wonderful characters... I'm telling you, I'm 35, now, and I still love these two. Thanks so much for bringing them back on this web site. And my goodness... wouldn't it be nice to get them back together, on Guiding Light, after all these years? The show could use a nice punch in the arm. I can just see Quinton standing in the doorway... he drops the luggage in his hands. He calls for Nola, and she appears, looking radiant. Quint whispers her name, in that soft whisper, as his deep blue eyes sparkle... "Nola." And she responds, "Quinton. It's been such a long time." And the audience responds, with a deep sigh, "Yes! It's been too long." (Ed. note: We love the drama of Amy's scene, but then it is revealed that "long" to them was the month that Quint was on a dig, and Nola couldn't go because she had to take care of the baby. But it would be too long since the viewers relished in their chemistry.)

I loved the sexual tension between Quinton and Nola and the loving way he would look at Nola when she would do or say something silly and romantic. My favorite scene was when they finally kissed!! We had waited so long for it to happen! I liked that it was in the traditional style of romance: Nola needing rescued, the semi-deserted island, Quinton verbally and emotionally letting his feelings for Nola take over him for the first time, and the sexual tension between them two finally being released. It wasn't like you we're watching a soap. It was a very romantic movie!! If they come back to Guiding Light, I hope their characters are the same as before and they are still married and in love and Nola is as crazy as she ever was. Have they though about putting together a book just about that story line, either in scrap-book form with lots of pictures and behind the scenes stories or as a novel taken from the Guiding Light story line? Thanks

My first Nola's memory is before Quint arrived in Springfield. I can't remember the very first episode I saw, but I can remember when she slept with Floyd but was in love with Kelly and wanted to break up Him and Morgan. I was a little boy when Quint arrived on GL, but I was watching and I can remember Nola going to Quinton's home and (If I am right) Mrs Renfield that opened the door.

I really loved the triangle with Mona Enright and Helena Manzini. I remember Nola and Helena fighting for the furs, and Mona pretending to be mute.

By the way, the most entertaining memory I have is a commercial aired in Italy (I don't know if it was aired in USA too). It was a commercial for a floor detergent. Quint, Nola, Mrs Renfield, Henry and Bea was seated in Quint's home, and they was talking about the detergent (I think VIM or CIF). It was very funny to hear my beloved characters to talk about a product to clean houses!!! I miss them very much!!
