The staff at the Quint & Nola Homepage is deeply saddened by the catastrophic events along the Gulf Coast as a result of Hurricane Katrina. When necessary help and money are thousands of miles away in a war overseas, the people are called upon to step in. Our hearts are heavy, but we can make a difference. The Quint & Nola homepage will donate $1 to the Red Cross and $.50 to petfinder.com, an animal disaster and emergency response organization, for every person that visits our site and sends us a letter. Please share a few thoughts about Hurricane Katrina and about our site. Come back often.
The Quint & Nola Homepage has donated $100 to Petfinders.com and $150 to the Red Cross, plus Viacom Intl. matched the $150 to Red Cross. Thanks to all who wrote in support of this effort. Every little bit counts.
I think it is wonderful that you are helping the victims of Hurricane Katrina. I am also glad that you haven't forgotten the pets.

I can't begin to describe how I feel every time I watch the news and see those poor people who are living through the aftermath of the hurricane. They've lost so much, and due to the ruthlessness of a handful of people are suffering even more. The impact of the hurricane was awful enough, but the looters and those preying on the defenselessness of the victim are adding insult to injury. Hopefully, order will be restored to the devastated land.
On a brighter note, I love your website. I was/am a huge Quola fan and enjoy watching the clips and reading the transcripts on your site. And, I'm happy to say, I won your "anniversary" giveaway tapes and have been basking in memories watching them.
Keep up the good work.

Hi Quola friends, it's Caelie.
Having been flooded out by Hurricane Isabel two years ago, I know all too well what many of these people are going through. Fortunately for us, the flood waters receded in a day or two, and the devastation was nothing on the scale of what happened in New Orleans. But my old neighborhood is still in the recovery stage, two years later, with houses still undergoing repairs from flood damage.
I say my old neighborhood, because for myself (and many others), insurance did not even begin to cover our losses, and we were forced to sell our homes to pay for the renovations we had to make in order to make these places livable again. Having to leave behind beloved neighbors may not be as heart wrenching as losing precious personal belonging such as family photos, but it does leave a scar on your heart. Especially since these people know what you're going through and could be a great source of support.
This loss of community is certain to happen in New Orleans, a place where far too many people have little but community to keep them going. The hundreds of thousands of poor who did not even have the means to get out when they had the chance will certainly not have the means to rebuild their homes, which means they will also not have the chance to rebuild their communities.
I must commend Dibba and VL and the other wonderful women behind this site for the idea of Nola giving to NOLA. Giving money might seem impersonal, but trust me that your funds will go to good use. When we were flooded, FEMA was nowhere to be found far too often, but the Red Cross was waiting at the local volunteer fire station right after we were boated out, with offers of temporary shelter, food, and information on what our next steps should be. I know from co-workers now volunteering down in NO that the Red Cross is out in full force down there, doing what they can for those who can't seem to find any other kind of help. Their resources are stretched to the limit, but they're going to keep going until they help every last person who needs help. So please support them generously!

I too am deeply saddened by the events that have taken place due to Hurricane Katrina. The tragedy that has befallen the people of Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana is almost too much to comprehend. These people not only lost everything they owned, they have lost their loved ones, some not even able to find them. I live in Houston where more and more victims arrive every day. We are expecting up to 75,000 people. Please pray that doors are open, resources are made available not only the these but all victims.

I am Canadian but have been watching the news for any information. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of those affected by this horrible disaster. May God be with you all, those who lost homes and family, and the heroic people in the armed services and other agencies who are doing their best to help.

I have to say that what I have seen of Hurricane Katrina sincerely breaks my heart. What has affected me most is knowing that so many families have been separated as a result. I sincerely wish them the best in finding their family members. Next, I am inspired by the depth of heart some people have toward their fellow human beings. There have been many examples in this present crisis of people who have opened their hearts, homes and lives to others in need. Also, this particular hurricane has caused me to truly appreciate what I have. In another ways, many of these people are truly heros in my book with everything they have had to contend with within the past few weeks. I wish them all the best in the future. I only wish I could do more to help out as well.
