HOLLYWOOD HEAT This scene is definitely the "steamiest" Quola scene ever. This was the first scene where Quint and Nola dealt with their physical passions for one another. This was also a significant scene because a whole other side of Quint was exposed. It was an exciting new dimension that had an intense sexuality which only added to his mysterious, adventurous and romantic persona. It was a revelation that was intended to surprise Nola and the viewers. It was such a shocking contrast that it was almost like seeing a whole new Quint. In turn, we saw a whole new Nola, a Nola that was maybe not nearly as experienced as she, or the viewer, thought. This scene in many ways was very instrumental, ironically enough, in Nola reclaiming her innocence which for a romantic heroine in the early 80s was very important One of Quinton's gifts to Nola for Christmas 1982 was a trip to Hollywood. Quint still had some things from his past to settle before he and Nola could truly start their lives together, but at this point in their relationship there were no secrets about how they both felt for each other; they were completely and utterly in love. The Hollywood trip was a great opportunity for them to be alone together and to do what people in love alone and together do. Nola, of course, visited with Gracie and saw the sights of Hollywood, but Quint's attentions were her main interest and vice versa. One early evening after a busy day of shopping, Nola comes out her room and into the suite dressed in a newly purchased black negligee. She pretends to pour herself some wine and poses before the mirror, practicing what she will say and do, fully preparing to play the seductress should Quint emerge from his room. She seductively reclines on the couch, but to no avail as Quint does not appear. She moves to the terrace in disappointment. Within a few moments, Quinton emerges from his room decked out in sexy white silk pajamas opened to the waist, sans ascot, and with an expression on his face that left his intentions perfectly clear. Still unnoticed by Nola, he checks the wine and then quietly utters Nola's name. She quickly turns to him and is stunned by the man that meets her eyes. The tone of his voice and the look in his eyes leave nothing up for debate. She is barely able to speak as she stutters to speak to him. His intensity not waning for a second, he pours them both wine and proclaims his love and admiration, almost paralyzing Nola as she just slightly quivers from this unexpected intensity, an intensity that almost frightened her. They kiss deeply, and then Quint slowly starts to undo the wrap around her negligee, as they fall to the couch prepared to satisfy their passions, until the dreaded ring of the phone interrupts. Quint seems completely ready to ignore it, but Nola answers it, saying that it could be about the baby (i.e. Anastasia). The call is from Rebecca who with the most horrendous timing in the world decides to finally reveal that she has her voice back, (See "Quola History" for more about that) putting an end to the scene and delaying the inevitable, the inevitable which never did occur until their wedding night almost six months later!!! This was an exasperating scene, but extremely Classic and TOTALLY in keeping with the romance of Quola.
