Lisa Brown and Michael Tylo
Interviewer: James Brady (aka goofball with a bad rug, you'll see why)
Anchor Carol Martin: The show's producers have special phone numbers which viewers can call to name the baby. And what do the proud parents to be think of all this fuss? Well, James Brady is here to talk with both of the parents tonight, Lisa Brown and Michael Tylo from Guiding Light.
CUT TO: Interview set with James Brady, Lisa Brown and Michael Tylo all seated with old Guiding Light logo in the background
James Brady: The biggest thing since Charles and Di had a baby??
Lisa Brown: (laughs) I guess so
JB: But your baby on television was actually born this afternoon?
LB: Yes, it was, yes
JB: Congratulations to both of you
LB: Thanks
Michael Tylo: Thanks
JB: (to Lisa) You look terrific, you know. You came out of it like that. (is he hitting on her?)
LB: Thanks! (playing along) It was very easy, yeah
JB: I suppose it's a gimmick, but it seems a very appealing one that they've been playing with this idea that in real life you've been pregnant. You've had your baby. How long ago?
LB: Uh, three months ago, February 18.
JB: Ok, so your character on Guiding Light has been pregnant at the same time?
LB: Yes
JB: (to Michael) You're the proud and nervous father, one assumes at this point?
MT: (laughing) Yes
JB: And everyone is wondering is the baby going to named after you, Quinton or after somebody else. And you, Nola are very up in the air about the whole thing?
LB: Yes, yes, but there are three possibilities
MT: (concurring) Three names, three possibilities
LB: Three possibilities, yes.
JB: And they're all boys' names. How did you know on Guiding Light that you were definitely going to have a boy?
LB: Um . .
MT: (being the voice of reason) The head writer told us
LB: Yes, no they told us. I guess they had planned months ago in the storyline, and I just happened to have a boy, so it worked out really well
JB: But intuitively you knew that you were going to have a boy?
LB: (playing along with the goofball) Oh yes, yes, I knew, yes.
JB: The headwriter and I had gotten together before this interview. We have a piece of tape and your character, Nola Chamberlain, you're so obsessed by this idea of what the child's name should be that in your fantasy you go to the Yellow Brick Road.
LB: Yes
JB: You head for the Wizard of Oz and you run into the scarecrow
(Runs clip with LB as Dorothy and MT as Scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz/Name the Baby Fantasy)
JB: (referring to line in fantasy clip) Quinton? A video game? Do you resent that at all in your role?
LB: (laughing)
MT: No, I don't resent it. I've always liked the name Quinton. When I got onto the soap opera and they said your name is going to be Quint McCord. I thought, well that sounds interesting. [hear sound clip]
LB (to MT): And you think that Quinton is going to win too, don't you?
MT: I do think that Quinton is going to win (and it should have won, who names their son after their living brothers? Blech)
LB: Yes
JB: Well, we don't know that yet. (to LB) But did you have the same problem in naming your own child? Your husband, Tom is actually on the show? (Doh!!)
LB: Yes, he plays Floyd (ouch!!)
JB; Yeah, did you two have trouble naming your own son?
LB: Um, yeah, we were thinking of, you know, relatives, and we finally settled on . .
JB: Relatives? That's a funny name for a kid (this guy needs a clue)
LB: (playing along with the goofball again) Relatives, Relatives Nielsen, well that's rather Danish, you know? Then we settled on, after our fathers, James Anthony which is very much like Anthony James, but his real name is James Anthony. [hear sound clip]
JB: And he's going to play the baby on the show?
LB: Yes, he's already worked. He had his first day last Friday. (another baby played Quola's baby for the first appearance, as I believe AFTRA and NY labor board dictates babies must generally be at least 3 months to work)
MT: Yes
JB: Has he gotten the check yet?
LB: No, it's his check. (with certainty) His check.
JB: Out there across America, people will have the opportunity on Wednesday and Thursday of this week of actually calling a certain 900 number, and you'll be able to vote for the name that you think the baby should be named. And that name will be selected on Friday from your votes. And I'm going to read the three names. If you believe it should be Quinton, Jr, you ring 900-210-1111. If you think it should be Anthony James, 900-210-2222. If you think it should be Thomas Henry, 900-210-3333.(they charged 50 cents per call) How are you two betting?
MT: I'm betting Quinton, Jr.
JB: Okay
LB: Um, I'm betting Anthony James
JB: We'll know on Friday.
