Quola Farewell

QUOLA FAREWELL

Originally aired in April 1985

"Well, well, what have we here?"...."A love story, if ever there was one."

Quint has been offered the opportunity of a lifetime, to return to Tanquir and excavate the site discovered by his mentor, Professor Renfield. While Nola is happy for Quint, she has refused to go to Tanquir with him and abandon the business she has just gotten started. Henry has been trying to convince her to go to Tanquir with Quint. Floyd comes to the house and listens while Nola talks out her feelings about leaving her business vs. going with Quint. This scene takes place in the entry hall of the Chamberlain mansion.

NOLA: (Crying) You know, it's funny. What does it, what does it all mean, though? Being a success? I don't know, maybe it isn't everything I dreamed about. I mean, success, it doesn't ... love you. It doesn't hold you when you're afraid. It doesn't keep you company. I don't know, I just don't know. I don't know what to do. Ohhh. What about when I, I come home and, and the kids are asleep, and Henry's with his journals, and the, all the help is gone, and I can't call Quinton because the phones over there (her voice rises), they just don't work. What am I gonna do? I'm gonna be all alone. I don't like being alone. Oh God, Quinton, what have I done?

QUINT: (off-camera) Nola!

(We see Quint running down the stairs)

QUINT: Nola... Nola, listen to me. (He takes her in his arms and she clings to him, still sobbing) Listen to me, Nola. Now listen, I've just talked to Father. (he starts caressing her hair) He made me realize how stupid and selfish I've been. Nola, I love you so much. I can't, Nola. No, I can't. (He pulls away and looks at her, still holding her by the arms) I can't leave you and go on a dig in Tanquir. I'm not going to leave you. (He pulls her back into his arms)

NOLA: No, no, Quinton, (she pulls away and looks at him) I... I'm not gonna let you give up this dig for me.

QUINT: But I want to.

NOLA: Now listen to me. The...the kids and I, we're gonna go with you.

QUINT: No, Nola. You can't give up Nolaerobics after all the work you put into it.

NOLA: It's not important. You and I are important, Quinton. Nolaerobics will just have to survive without me.

(They hug. Henry comes down the stairs to a pleasant surprise.)

HENRY: Well, well, what have we here?

QUINT: A love story (he caresses her cheek), if ever there was one.

HENRY: (all smiles) Oh, Nola, I'm so happy for you. You made the right decision, girl. You're not gonna regret it.

NOLA: (smiling) Well, I guess I'd better go upstairs and pack.

HENRY: Oh, you don't have to rush, just pack an overnight bag or something. I'll have the servants send on the rest of your things.

NOLA: Oh, Henry, thank you. (Nola hugs Henry) Thank you.

HENRY: (overlapping) Good girl.

NOLA: Well, don't leave without me. (Nola turns to go upstairs.

QUINT: Nothing could make me leave without you.

(Henry hugs Quint.)

HENRY: Oh, Quinton, I am so happy for you.

QUINT: I'm happy. Tell me, how did you do it?

HENRY: Oh, well, I just reminded her how much she loved you and, once she realized that, the rest of it took care of itself.

(Floyd leaves. Henry calls Bea, who comes to the house to tell Quint & Nola goodbye. Quint, Nola, and the kids walk out of the house and out of our lives, for what looked like forever. Henry and Bea hug each other, Bea in tears and Henry near them, mirroring the emotions of Quint & Nola's fans.)
