Quinton Pops the Question Originally aired May 2, 1983 |
|
Quinton finally asks Bea if he may "have Nola's hand in marriage" and Bea consents. No one should be surprised that Quint followed this outdated custom. Quint plans an extravagant and romantic evening to pop the big question, but then in typical Quola fashion everything goes wrong. Quint winds up at a cliff with Rebecca, Mark Evans and Amanda Spaulding and finds out that he was not responsible for Rebecca's accident, but rather it was Mark. Both Rebecca and Mark fall from the cliff to their deaths. Meanwhile Nola is back at the boarding house thinking that Quint got "cold feet" about asking her to marry him when he doesn't show up for their big date.
EXT. SPRINGFIELD CLIFF -- EVENING
NOLA is sitting on a rock in a gown with a shawl. QUINTON is standing beside her in a black tuxedo.
NOLA: What are you thinking about?
QUINT: I'm sorry, I was just thinking about you, me, us (hesitates) . . Nola will you marry me?
NOLA: (looking up at Quint) What?
QUINT: (kneels down) I said will you marry me?
(Pachelbel starts to play)
NOLA: (stunned) Of course I will.
QUINT: I realize that this isn't the right place or the right time, but it's never been clearer to me than it is right now how much I love you and how much I want to marry you and marry you as fast as I can. When I was on that Cliff with Rebecca and she and Mark died, I . . . I realized how precious life is, it's too precious to waste one single moment. (brushes side of face with back of fingers) I want ot marry you. I want to walk up in the morning with you right beside me. I want you to have our children. And I want the both of us to grow old together.
Nola starts to cry
QUINT: (con't) Nola in my entire life, I've never wanted or needed anything or anyone as much as I need you.
NOLA: No one's ever said that to me before.
They kiss and hold each other

Quinton and Nola announce Originally aired May 3, 1983 |
Bea, Maureen and Tony knew that Quint had planned to propose during the special evening he had planned with Nola. Everyone wondered what could have gone wrong when Quint failed to arrive at the boarding house as planned. Then Ross Marler showed up with a note from Rebecca to Quinton which Ross had found when he went to Thornway Road looking for Quint. He told the Reardons that Rebecca Cartwright was a very dangerous woman. Nola figured out the meaning of the note, and she and Ross headed for the cliff where Mark Evans and Rebecca Cartwright (a/k/a Mona Enright) had just fallen to their death. Quint proposed and Nola accepted, before they went to police headquarters where he told the police exactly what had happened on the cliff. Tony went to the police station, but was not allowed to see Quint or Nola. It is the next morning, and although the Reardons know that Quint and Nola are okay, none of them knows what actually happened the night before. Bea, Tony, Maureen, Stacey and Floyd are having breakfast at the boarding house. Floyd is reading a newspaper report about the events of the previous evening.
FLOYD: Well, it doesn't give any details, it just says that Rebecca Cartwright and Mark Evans are dead, and that Amanda Spaulding and Quinton McCord were there when it happened.
MAUREEN: Boy, I still can't believe all this has happened.
BEA: I can't believe they're still down at the police station.
TONY: Quint saw the whole thing. He's the only one that can give the police a full report.
MAUREEN: Quint and Amanda Spaulding.
TONY: Right.
FLOYD: I don't see why Nola has to be there all night.
BEA: Well, I'm sure she doesn't want to leave Quint alone. (Speaking to Tony) I just wish they'd let you see them when you went down there.
TONY: Well, I found out they were okay. That's the important thing, right?
MAUREEN: Look, you know, when Nola does get here, she's gonna be exhausted because of everything that's happened, so I don't think it would be a good idea to hit her with a lot of questions.
BEA: Of course not, honey, I just want to know that they're alright. (We hear voices off-camera) Oh, here they are. Finally. Oh, I've been so worried about you. (Bea hugs Nola)
NOLA: We're okay, we're alright.
MAUREEN (overlapping): Are you alright?
NOLA: Yeah, I'm alright.
BEA : (to Nola) You look very tired. (to Quint): How are you?
QUINT: I'm alright.
BEA: Why were you so long?
QUINT: Well, Amanda Spaulding wasn't in any condition to give her testimony, so I had to be pretty detailed.
NOLA: Yeah.
TONY: Well, I'm glad to see you two finally. Hi. (he pulls Nola into a hug) I tried to get down there to see you last night. They wouldn't let me in.
QUINT: Yeah, I'm sorry they wouldn't let you talk to us.
TONY: Well, no, it's okay, just as long as your alright, that's all.
MAUREEN: (hugging Nola ) I was so worried about you, honey.
NOLA: Oh, thank you, thank you Maureen. Oh hi, Floyd.
FLOYD: Glad to see your okay, Nola.
NOLA: (taking Stacey from Floyd) Hi sweetie. Oh, hi. I missed you so much last night. Goodness. I hope you weren't worried about her last night, Floyd.
FLOYD: Oh, no, no. I knew that she'd be alright with Bea. I just wanted to make sure that you were okay
NOLA: Well, thank you. That's nice of you.
FLOYD: Well, you look a little tired. You want me to, uh, take care of Stacey? That way you can get some rest.
NOLA: No, that's okay, I'll just keep her myself. Thanks.
MAUREEN: Oh, Nola, it's so awful that you had to go through all of this, especially since everything that happened in Tanquir and ...
QUINT: (walking across the kitchen to go stand beside Nola and Stacey) Listen everyone. I, I know this is difficult for you all to believe, but something good did come out of, uh, last night.
TONY: Oh, yeah? What's that?
QUINT: Well, I asked Nola to marry me.
(A look of anticipation on everyone's face, with Maureen looking especially excited)
NOLA: And I said yes. (big grins on both Quint and Nola's faces)
(They all talk over each other excitedly. Maureen kisses Nola)
BEA: (hugging Quint) Oh, I'm so happy for you. (turning to Nola) Here, let me take the baby for you.
NOLA : Okay, there you go.
QUINT: Thank you so much.
BEA: (to Stacey) Sweetie, your mama's getting married, you know that?
(Tony kisses Nola on the cheek and shakes Quint's hand)
MAUREEN: Nola, Nola, you did it.
NOLA: I know, I know.
MAUREEN: Quinton, I'm so happy for you.
QUINT: Well, I'm glad you're all happy. Oh, listen, Bea, and I, I have an apology to make to you.
BEA: What for?
QUINT: Well, I've put Nola in a lot of dangerous situations. I know that's my fault, but I promise you, from now on I'm gonna take real good care of your little girl.
TONY: You do that.
QUINT: I will.
BEA: You're gonna have to stop scaring us.
QUINT: I will.
TONY: Well, it looks like this makes us brothers, huh?
QUINT: Yes, and, uh, I couldn't have asked for a better brother, myself.
TONY: You just take good care of her, okay?
QUINT: I will.
MAUREEN: You know, uh, Mr. McCord, I think you're just the perfect guy for our Nola here.
QUINT: Oh?
MAUREEN: (teasingly) Why, I didn't think we'd ever find her a man.
NOLA: (slapping Maureen on the arm) Oh, stop it, stop it.
BEA: Oh, Maureen.
MAUREEN: Now we've gotta get her all dressed up and make a little bride of her, and the wedding. . .
TONY: Yeah.
QUINT: Yes, indeed.
NOLA: Oh my. A bride? I forgot all about that. (taking Stacey from Bea) We've got a wedding to plan. We've got a wedding to plan. My goodness.
BEA: Oh, you've got plenty of time, honey. When is it gonna be?
NOLA: I don't know. I haven't even thought about it yet, but I do know one thing for sure. I want Maureen to be my matron of honor.
MAUREEN: Oh, there's no way out of it. I've been planning this ever since you were a little girl, Nola.
NOLA: Awww.
FLOYD: I'm real happy for you, Nola.
NOLA: Oh, thank you, Floyd.
FLOYD: I know this is what you want.
NOLA: Thank you.
FLOYD: (going to Quint and shaking hands) Congratulations, Mr. McCord.
QUINT: Well, thank you, Floyd. And call me Quinton from now on, please.
FLOYD: Right.
BEA: Would anybody like something to eat?
QUINT: Uh, I'm sorry, but we have to leave. Henry is waiting at my house with Mrs. Renfield, and Nola and I are kind of tired.
NOLA: Yeah.
TONY: Don't say another word. Go. Listen, congratulations, I think it's wonderful news.
MAUREEN: Yeah, we all do.
QUINT: Thank you. Thank you so much.
NOLA: Thank you. Good night. I'll talk to you later.
MAUREEN: Yeah, yeah.
QUINT: I really like my new family. I really do.
MAUREEN: (laughing) We really like you too.
TONY: Go, go. Get out of here.

ENGAGEMENT BALL Originally aired June 1983
|
Quinton and Nola have just finished celebrating their engagement with a lavish Ante Bellum Ball. Both Nola and Vanessa show up dressed as Scarlett O'Hara, but Nola makes the most of the situation and becomes a natural belle of the ball. All of the guests have gone home and Nola sits alone near the dance floor contemplating the evenings events.
INT. COUNTRY CLUB BALL ROOM -- EARLY JUNE EVENING
A melancholy NOLA sits alone. QUINT enters the room unseen and walks toward Nola. He surprises her with a kiss to the top of her head. She turns to him.
NOLA: Oh
QUINT: (softly) Hi
NOLA: Hi
QUINT: You seemed a million miles away.
NOLA: Oh . . . only about a half a million.
QUINT: Are you tired? (he gently brushes his knuckles against her cheek)
NOLA: Oh, a little bit. It's a wonderful party though and everybody had such a good time.
QUINT: I know, but why the long face?
NOLA: Oh . . . I don't know everything just seems to be changing.
QUINT: (quietly) In what way?
NOLA: I'm going to be leaving my family.
QUINT: (assuring) Nola, every beginning (takes her hand) is the end of something else. You won't lose your family. There's too much love there.
NOLA: I know that, but I'm going to stop being my mother's daughter and a kid sister and . . . . I'm going to be your wife. Do you understand?
QUINT: I think so.
NOLA: You know there's a part of me that just wants to run away right now. Get married right tonight. Just forget all the wedding plans.
QUINT: (teasing) Which part?
NOLA: Oh Quint. What would I do without you?
QUINT: You'll never be without me Nola.
NOLA: (emotionally) I love you.
QUINT: I love you too.
Quint gently kisses Nola.
QUINT: Let's dance.
Quint leads Nola to the middle of the dance floor and the band starts to play and they waltz. The camera cranes up as Nola tries to contain her emotions.

"WEDDING NIGHT" Originally aired June 28, 1983 |
Nola and Quint have just been married on June 24, 1983. They had a wonderfully romantic wedding that everyone in town attended. They have just returned to their house at Thornway Road and go out to the gazebo, the place where they first met.
EXT. GAZEBO -- EVENING
NOLA and QUINT enter the gazebo holding hands dressed in night clothes.
NOLA: Well here we are.
QUINT: This is where we first met.
(Quint holds Nola)
NOLA: And now we're married.
(Nola turns to him and they hold both hands)
QUINT: It seems like a lifetime ago that I turned around and saw you standing right there.
NOLA: Right there, yeah. If I only knew then what I know now . . .
QUINT: You'd probably turn tail and run.
(Quint kisses Nola)
NOLA: Oh no, come on. No, no, miss everything, all my dreams coming true. You know you're my husband now. No more Silas Crocker, no more room on the third floor.
QUINT: All that's behind us now Nola.
NOLA: What am I going to worry about though now?
QUINT: I don't know. For one thing it won't be money
NOLA: Now I would love you if you didn't have a dime.
QUINT: Oh?
NOLA: You know that, yes.
QUINT: Well as it turns out, we have about $500,000.00 in extra dimes. A gift from my father.
NOLA: You're kidding?
QUINT: No, father decided to settle on a half a million dollars on each of his children as a wedding gift.
NOLA: Oh, my goodness. I wonder if Vanessa knows about that?
QUINT: I don't think so.
NOLA: Well she probably doesn't because if she did there would have been a double wedding.
(Quint chuckles)
NOLA: No really, I think she'd marry about anyone to get her hands on half a million dollars.
(Quint laughs and nuzzles Nola)
CUT TO:
EXT. GAZEBO -- A LITTLE LATER
NOLA sits on QUINT's lap.
QUINT: It's been quite a day for us hasn't it?
NOLA: It has been the best day of my life
QUINT: Uh huh.
(They kiss)
QUINT: Did you like the balloon?
NOLA: I loved the balloon. You know what, I was thinking maybe we could go all the way to Ireland on the balloon.
QUINT: I'm sorry, but it's not available. You'll just have to settle for a little old plane.
NOLA: (teasing): The things I have to put up with!
QUINT: (teasing) Well I could always trade the tickets in for two tickets to the Amazon. I know how much you'd like to go there.
NOLA: Oh yeah, right how much I'd like to go there. No, we're going to Ireland and that's it . . . that's it. O.K. You know I really can't wait to see where the Reardons and the Ryans come from.
QUINT: I wouldn't miss it for the world and some day I'd like to go back there with our children.
NOLA: Our children?
QUINT: Uh huh.
NOLA: Won't they be beautiful?
QUINT: They will be if they look like you.
(Nola laughs)
QUINT: It's true.
(Nola kisses Quint)
NOLA: I love you. I'll always love you.
QUINT: I'll always love you Mrs. Chamberlain.
NOLA: Mrs. Chamberlain? That's right, that's me.
Q: Uh, huh
(They share a long kiss and then Nola indicates that they should go. Quint smiles and carries her off. Nola throws back her head and laughs. Quint laughs.)

"Quola Discuss Bedroom Behavior" Originally aired July 1, 1983 |
Quinton surprises Nola and takes her on their honeymoon to the home of both of their ancestors . . . Ireland. Quint arranges for them to stay in a small Irish country inn. When they arrive the innkeeper tells the Chamberlains a tale of two star crossed lovers who died a hundred years earlier before they were ever able to unite in marriage. He tells them that since that time, the church bell in the town has not rung. He goes on to tell Quola that these star crossed lovers are waiting for another couple as much in love as themselves to go to the church and recite their wedding vows and then the bell will ring. The innkeeper also tells Quola that the room they are staying in was once the young girl's room and Nola believes her ghost is still there.
INT. HONEYMOON BEDROOM AT IRISH INN -- EVENING
NOLA and QUINT are asleep in bed. Nola wakes and checks to see if Quint is awake.
NOLA: (to ghost) Hello? Hello? Is anybody here? (Nola sits up in bed) My name is Nola Reardon . . . I mean Chamberlain . . . I'm married now . . . Um . . . Can you hear me? . . . (Nola reacts to a KNOCK) Are you in the room now? (She reacts to another KNOCK) Can you tell me your name?
QUINT: (O.C. in a ghostly voice) Quinton Chamberlain.
NOLA: (lays back down) That was mean.
QUINT: What?
NOLA: That wasn't funny that was mean.
QUINT: What?
NOLA: Cause I was trying to communicate with them.
QUINT: Them? The ghosts?
NOLA: Yes, they were here earlier when you were in the bathroom.
QUINT: Were they wearing white sheets Nola?
(Quint turns toward Nola and Nola turns away)
NOLA: It's not funny. I knew you wouldn't believe me.
QUINT: Nola why don't you tell your ghost friends to go down in the pub . . . I want to be alone with you.
NOLA: Well first of all I don't know if they're still here and second of all this is her room.
QUINT: (slightly discouraged) Nola do you know why I brought you all the way to Ireland?
NOLA: Why?
QUINT: Because I wanted to be alone with you. I thought a small bedroom in a small country inn thousands of miles away from Springfield would give me that. (Quint kisses the back of her shoulder)
NOLA: (turning towards Quint) Well we're together now. Aren't we?
They kiss
NOLA: You know . . .Quinton?
QUINT: Yes
NOLA: I never thought you'd be so . . . uh . . .
QUINT: So what?
NOLA: (playfully) Oh, you know.
QUINT: No, I don't know.
NOLA: Yes you do . . . come on.
QUINT: Tell me.
NOLA: Well . . ok . . before we were married you were so quiet and reserved and you know a real gentleman . . .
QUINT: Well thank you (Quint kisses Nola cheek and starts nibbling on her)
NOLA: But now . . . I mean since we've been married . . . there's a whole other side of you that I never even knew about . . .
QUINT: (still nibbling) Can we talk about this later?
NOLA: You're a different man without your ascot . . .
QUINT: (more nibbling) Am I?
NOLA: An animal !!
(Quint growls and nibbles on Nola as she giggles)
NOLA: Quinton, now I want to be serious for a moment here.
QUINT: (continues kissing her face) Yes Nola . . . yes
NOLA: Was it what you thought it would be?
QUINT: (stops kissing) Was what what I thought it would be?
NOLA: Us being "together"and everything.
(Nola brushes his hair back)
QUINT: (realizing) Oh . . ."it" . . . yes Nola "it" was wonderful
(Quint kisses her)
NOLA: Yeah
QUINT: Except for one . . . (kiss) . . . little thing.
NOLA: (surprised) What?
QUINT: Your feet?
NOLA: Oh?
QUINT: Yes, what do you have on your feet?
(Nola pulls her leg out from under the covers and reveals socked calf and foot.)
NOLA: Socks.
QUINT: Three pairs?
NOLA: My feet get cold.
QUINT: You always wear three pairs of socks in bed?
NOLA: In the winter I wear four.
QUINT: That is going to have to change.
NOLA: But I can't sleep with my feet cold.
QUINT: That's what I'm here for.
(Quint kisses Nola and pulls the covers over both their heads as he goes to get socks off her)
NOLA: (playfully under covers) Quinton . . . Just wait a minute.
QUINT: (under covers) Come here now.
NOLA: (under covers) One
(A sock comes flying out from under covers)
NOLA: (under covers) There's two.
QUINT: (under covers) Two.
(A pair of socks come flying out from under covers and Nola giggles and we continue to see them wrestling with "the socks" under the covers)

NOLA'S PREGNANT Originally aired September 30, 1983 |
Newlyweds Nola and Quint have just had a silly little spat in the gazebo and Quint takes off to brood. Meanwhile Nola cries and doesn't seem to understand what has made her so moody and argumentative lately. Quint comes back to the gazebo and presents her with some flowers and tells a funny story of how he didn't have any cash to pay for the flowers at Mr. Frederick's Cash and Carry Only Florist. Nola smiles and they hug.
NOLA and QUINT are sitting together in the gazebo holding hands.
NOLA: Do you realize this is the first fight we ever had in our married life?
QUINT: Yes I do.
NOLA: And you were right about something.
QUINT: I was. What was it?
NOLA: Well I just haven't been myself lately.
QUINT: That's because you haven't been sleeping well.
NOLA: No that's not it, that's not it, no. I just um . . . well I've sort of been feeling . . .
QUINT: Irritable?
NOLA: Irritable.
QUINT: Cranky?
NOLA: Cranky
QUINT: You've been crying a lot too
NOLA: I've . . . . how did you know that?
QUINT: Well I do sleep with you at night . . .
NOLA: (overlapping & smiling) Oh, that's right.
QUINT: . . . and I do notice these things. Besides the tip of
your nose is red and it always goes red when you've been crying a lot.
NOLA: You know what? I haven't felt this way . . . .("lightbulb" goes off)
Nola gets up and walks away thinking about her "condition" Quint follows her.
QUINT: What? What is it?
NOLA: Um, well I guess it sort of has to be.
Nola is discretely counting on her fingers.
QUINT: Has to be what?
NOLA: Well I guess I just sort of have to admit it to myself then.
QUINT: (becoming more confused) Admit what?
Nola smiles and turns to Quint
NOLA: I'm pregnant
QUINT: (stunned) You're what?
NOLA: I'm gonna have a baby.
QUINT: (still stunned) A baby?
Pachelbel starts playing in the background
NOLA: Do you mind?
QUINT: (still stunned) Do I mind? (finally realizing what she is saying) A baby!!!
NOLA: A baby. I'm going to have a baby.
Quint hugs Nola ecstatically and turns her around.
QUINT: (exhuberantly) Oh, Nola, Nola, Nola, Nola, Nola you have made me the happiest man on earth. I can't believe this, a baby.
NOLA: You're going to be a daddy!!
QUINT: I'm going to be a daddy!!
He hugs Nola.
QUINT: Nola
Quint kisses Nola

THE MUFFIN SCENE Originally aired on November 22 & 23, 1983. |
Nola has just discovered that Quint made a deal with Vanessa to help her at Spaulding Enterprises in return for her being nice to Nola. Nola has just recently learned that she is pregnant, and has been very emotional lately. Even though it is Thanksgiving, Nola refuses to stay at the Chamberlain house and goes to the boarding house with Stacy. Vanessa follows her there and makes a half-hearted attempt to persuade her to return home, but Nola refuses. After Vanessa leaves, Bea asks Nola why she is so angry at Quint.
{BOARDING HOUSE KITCHEN}
BEA: Alright, now I want you to tell me exactly what Quinton did that got you so angry.
NOLA: Alright, Mother, you want to know? You want to know? Quinton bribed Vanessa to be nice to me, and to keep it a secret.
BEA: What else?
NOLA: That's it.
BEA: {in disbelief} That's IT?!
NOLA: I am so mad.
BEA: Do you mean to tell me you left your husband alone on Thanksgiving Day because he wanted his sister to be nice to you?
NOLA: Mother, he bribed her.
BEA: Nola, that's ridiculous.
NOLA: Whose side are you on?
BEA: Ohhh . . . When you came storming in here, I thought at least he'd beaten you up or run off with another woman or something.
NOLA: Mother, my husband hurt me . . . emotionally. And I thought that that
would at least matter to my own mother.
BEA: Honey, of course it matters to me.
NOLA: You don't act like it.
BEA: Well, dear, you are pregnant, and you have to remember that pregnant women are . . . emotional.
NOLA: No, Mother, I'm not emotional, {her voice rises} I am not emotional. No, ho, ho, ho, ho. No, I am just very angry at what Quinton did to me, that's all. That is it. {She sighs}
{Quint walks into the boarding house kitchen}
QUINT: Nola, I'd like to talk to you.
NOLA: We have nothing to say to each other. {She turns away from Quint}
BEA: Oh, yes you do. Oh, yes you do. I'm, uh, gonna go, uh, look at the baby or something and you two stay here and settle this ridiculous argument.
{She pushes Quint toward Nola and then walks out of the kitchen}
{Nola glares at Quint}
QUINT: I understand that, uh, Vanessa couldn't convince you to come home.
NOLA: Well, maybe if you would've paid her a little more, she would've been more convincing.
QUINT: I didn't . . . Oh, no. No, no, no, you're not going to make me angry about all this. Now listen, I understand you're upset with me for what I did.
NOLA: You know, if you would've been a little . . . You know, if you were so understanding, why did you do what you did?
QUINT: Well, I . . . . I didn't like the way Vanessa was behaving toward you.
NOLA: Quinton, don't you think that I can take care of myself?
QUINT: Oh, Nola, I . . . {He moves toward her}
NOLA: {Overlapping, as she rushes away from him} Get away from me, get away, get away.
QUINT: Look, Nola, I . . . I just didn't want you to be humiliated.
NOLA: Oh, boy, you love playing that nice-guy part, don't you?
QUINT: Well, look, I didn't like the way she was being so rude and insulting toward you.
NOLA: {Sarcastically} That's so sweet.
QUINT: I wanted you to think that Vanessa had a change for the better.
NOLA: Do you think that I am that dumb?
QUINT: Well, I just didn't like the way she was being so small-minded and petty.
NOLA: Well, you said it, I didn't.
QUINT: Nola, look, it worked didn't it?
{Quint stands and walks toward Nola, who has been standing by the kitchen sink eating a banana}
NOLA: I said, get away from me. GET AWAY.
QUINT: Nola. You want me to like Maureen and Tony and all your other brothers and sisters, don't you?
NOLA: But I wouldn't have paid 'em off just to be nice to you.
QUINT: {In a loud voice} That was my mistake. {Lowering his voice} That was my mistake. And . . . and, I apologize.
NOLA: Well, you should.
QUINT: Well, I do.
NOLA: Alright. Okay. Alright, I accept . . . {sigh} I accept your apology.
QUINT: Good. Thank you. Now, come on hon, let's go home. {He stands behind her and puts his hands on her shoulders}
NOLA: No, I can't, Quinton, I can't {she walks away}, I just can't go, I can't. I can't sit at that dinner table with all those people and. . . and pretend that nothing happened. I would look like a fool!
QUINT: Come on, Nola, think about it.
NOLA: No, Quinton, there is just nothing to think about, nothing at all. I'm gonna sit right here where I belong. {She sits at kitchen table}
QUINT: You belong to me.
NOLA: {in an ominous tone of voice} I what? I what?
QUINT: {overlapping} No, wait a minute, I didn't mean it that way, Nola . . .
NOLA: {overlapping, as she stands up at the table} Now listen, you don't own me, Quinton Chamberlain.
QUINT: {overlapping, voice raised} No, I didn't say that I owned you. You're my wife, I'm your husband. You and me and your daughter belong in my home.
NOLA: {overlapping, voice raised} Well, so what? So what? Look, maybe you can tell your sister what to do, but you can't tell me what to do.
QUINT: {with an edge to his voice} Now, look, Nola, Nola. I apologized. I said I was sorry.
NOLA: {yelling} I heard you the first time.
QUINT: {yelling} Well, I'm not gonna stand here and grovel.
NOLA: {yelling} Good, I don't want to listen to any more. Go home.
QUINT: {yelling} Alright. Alright. I will.
NOLA: Good.
QUINT: But I'll be back.
NOLA: Oh, sure, sure you will.
QUINT: {voice raised} Count on it, lady.
NOLA: {voice raised} Go. Get out of here. {She makes an exasperated sound}
BEA: {Entering the room as Quint leaves} Nola, where is Quinton going?
NOLA: {in a very calm and unconcerned voice} Oh, he's going home.
BEA: Nola, that pride of yours is gonna get you in a lot of trouble one of these days.
{KITCHEN AT ED & MAUREEN'S HOUSE}
{The kitchen is full of Bauers and Reardons}
NOLA: Oh, you know, Stacy loved that parade today. I could hardly even drag her away from the television set.
BEA: Where is she anyway, honey?
MIKE BAUER: She's up watching the half-time show with Annabelle.
BEA: Oh. Boy, she really did love the parade, except she kept asking about Quint.
NOLA: Now, Mother, don't bring this up again. I've made my decision and it is final.
BEA: Nola.
{Quint walks through the door into the kitchen}
QUINT: Nola. I've had enough Nola. Now you're coming home with me, right now.
NOLA: {through gritted teeth} What did you say?
QUINT: What, am I talkin' to the wind here? You heard me. I said, you're comin' home with me RIGHT NOW.
NOLA: Says who?
QUINT: Says me. And if you don't come peacefully, I'm gonna pick you up and carry you home.
{Laughter and applause from all the Bauers and Reardons in the kitchen}
NOLA: Oh, yeah, mister? Well, you just try it. Just try it. {brandishing cooking pot at him}
MAUREEN: Oh, Quinton, why don't you do it? She's been like this all day.
NOLA: Now, don't you come near me. Don't you come near me.
BEA: Nola, you cannot hit your husband. Not on Thanksgiving.
NOLA: Oh, yes I can, Mother. You just watch me. You just watch me. {still holding pot}
QUINT: I think everybody oughta leave, because this might get a little messy.
MAUREEN: I think that's a good idea.
ED: Careful of the food and the crockery, guys. Otherwise, go to it.
{Quint and Nola are glaring at each other, as everyone else leaves the room}
QUINT: Now, don't worry, Bea. This shouldn't take too long. {He closes the doors to the kitchen. As he turns around, a muffin hits the doors next to his head.}
NOLA: This is gonna take forever, buddy. {Nola is still holding the bread basket of muffins, which she continues to throw at Quint, while they circle around the kitchen table, talking in raised voices.}
QUINT: Forever's a long time, young lady.
NOLA: Well, that's how, just how long it's gonna take for me to go back to that house with Vanessa.
QUINT: Well, I am not gonna wait forever. In fact, I'm not even gonna wait five minutes.
NOLA: Well, you're gonna have to. Now, don't you come near me. I'm gonna hurt you just the way you hurt me.
QUINT: How, did I hurt you?
NOLA: You made that stupid deal with Vanessa.
QUINT: Alright, it was a mistake.
NOLA: Well, it was a stupid mistake. {She throws another muffin and Quint ducks}
QUINT: Alright, I'll grant you it was a stupid mistake.
NOLA: And I'm never gonna forgive you for it. {She throws the basket of muffins at Quint}
QUINT: Nola! Come here. {He grabs her and holds her by the arms} Oh, yes.
Oh. Now, you listen to me. You're gonna fogive me. You know why? Because
I want you. I need you. I love you. {He kisses her passionately and Nola
gives her little trademark sighs}
NOLA: {breathlessly} You know how hard it is to be mad at you?
QUINT: {kissing her forehead} I'm glad it's over.
NOLA: Ummm, me too.
QUINT: Does this mean you're gonna come home with me?
NOLA: {in soft, melting tone of voice} No. Can't we just have dinner here at Ed's?
QUINT: No. Ed doesn't need us. Ed's a fun guy. Vanessa needs us.
NOLA: {still melting} Why?
QUINT: Because everyone at Vanessa's party is going to be prim and proper and elegant and dull and boring. We need somebody like you to, uh, throw some muffins around. {He kisses her gently}
NOLA: Well, I guess you're right, you know. {sighs} Vanessa really doesn't know how to have fun, does she?
QUINT: Absolutely not. See, we need you at home.
NOLA: Alright. I'll do it. But on one condition.
QUINT: What's that?
NOLA: Will you help me with something?
QUINT: Yes, of course.
NOLA: I have a plan.
QUINT: Nola, are you up to something?
NOLA: Oh, no, no, I'm not up to something. I'm just gonna help Vanessa celebrate Thanksgiving in a way that she'll never, ever forget. {She kisses Quint}
